We learnt about rationing during WW2!
25th Oct 2024
In recent WW2 topic lessons we learnt about rationing and acted out being shopkeepers who stamped our ration books and queued up at 2 shops to collect our weekly and monthly shop just like people in the 1940s. To help us be patient as we queued, music from the 1940s was playing just like in WW2.
We couldn't believe how little food we had to make last a month and some things like jelly were too many points to justify so we had to settle for things like jam and rice.
The shopkeepers had to work hard and fast to get through the queues of people!
Finally once we got our monthly items, we traded with our neighbours just like they did in the war and for a number of years after the war ended.
