Trip to the Ulster American Folk Park
14th Feb 2024
Today we had a fantastic day at the Ulster American Folk Park. We were taken on a guided tour and saw the types of houses that people in Ireland would have lived in during the 1800s. We learnt that poor families mainly ate potatoes and a grown man would have eaten 70 potatoes a day! We were also told about the potato famine in 1845 and how 1 million people died because of the blight so some families were sent to the Workhouses and some emigrated to America. We experienced what the boat to America would have been like and then explored some houses and buildings from America.
